Before I do this post I have to say two things. 1 Japanese directors seem to be a million times better than American directors. Miyazaki and Kirosawa, i think, are better than all American directors combined. 2, This is one of the few anime movies that was transfered to the US CORRECTLY. Not some two bit dubbing that gives me a headache.The story of Spirited Away is a lot like that of Wizard of Oz. The main character gets transported to some weird place, and only wants to get home. The main character of this story is, yet again. a little 13-14 year old girl (I am going to talk about that later in this blog).
I believe this is another of the all time best anime movies out there. The story is fa nominal, and the story telling is even better. I know i am repeating Danny when I say that he Miyazaki is a great story teller. He can take some weird ass stories, and pull it off really well. Who thought up a river spirit that's a dragon, that turns into a boy., or talking bouncing heads. This movie was great in many ways
The use of color helped contrast the characters, and helped you tell if they were good or bad. Miyazaki used shading to do this also. I am going to admit; when i first saw this movie, i didn't like it. I thought it was long boring and hard to follow. Thats kind of ironic because it was set to my age group. O well. Now seeing it again, I get drawn away knowing it's meant for little children, but i still greatly enjoyed this film.
Now that I'm done with my main part. I am going into a slight rant. I find it really weird that Miyazaki has so many of his characters, be girls all of the same age group. In ALL of the movies that I've seen of his so far, he has atleast one main character that is a girl child. Does he have a disgusting fetish for girls, or does he have a daughter he is trying to impress? I don't know. O, and another connection of the girls. They all are head strong, and only want things to be done their way. The biggest example is Princess Mono's suicidal attack on the castle. They say that the movies reflect the director; I really hope not, because I am really like his films, and i don't want to have the image of him and a little girl going through my head whenever i see one of his movies. (i'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who thinks that that is really disgusting).
This is a note to my group members. I am finishing up my post, and it is past midnight, and the only person in our group that has there post up so far is Danny. Way to wait until the very last minute you guys!!!

Haha, I liked how you said that this film was one of the few anime movies that was correctly dubbed, as I know you don't enjoy the subtitles. But to get to the point, I agree how the Japanese directors may seem to be much better, but it is possible that you just like the new types of animation that occurs in the Japanese style. I still like how you liked the film, as I also believed that this was one hell of a story, and very well organized throughout. His artistic value is highly appreciated in the anime world, as I can see that from the praise that Miyazaki gets from every project he does. Hopefully the others will give good notes on this film, as I enjoyed it as much as you probably did.
Maybe he is into the whole Japanese fetish with school girls? But actually I think he has a daughter he bases his characters on... not exactly sure. What do you have against head strong girls? SEXIST! Nah, I'm just joking... or am I? (You will never know). Nice review, good rant.
haha nice spelling on 'fa nominal' but yeah good review, I do agree that he used good animation color and so forth. Something I think is so wrong is that how you over analyzed Miyazaki and girls, especially little young girls. That was something I thought you very much exaggerated incorrect thoughts and makes me wonder why did you even think of this in the first place? WEIRD
